When I bott up, there are several things that load up. I was wondering if I set the system to prevent loading some stuff, such as networking, then when I log in, will I be unable to surf, or will automatically activate when I attempt to?

Also, while I am at it, does anyone know if cron needs to boot up when the computer is started? I am trying to streamline my system do decrease boot time, memory, and resources. Something that people WISH Winblows would allow.

Startup scripts differ a little between distro's. What are you running?
