Another question... (my, I am active today!).. I'm trying to find details of how Linux starts up, so that I can put in a command to start a program automatically on boot. The command needs to run as root and I'd like to run it _before_ any logging-in begins (it's the dhcpcd command to connect to the network). Anyone know?

Thanks!

When Linux boots itll enter the default runlevel u specified in /etc/inittab. It then searches in rc.d for a corresponding directory and starts/stops all services there.
If theres a link that starts with "Snetwork" in that directory itll try & bring the network up. If u specified using dhcp itll bring up the network interface u have configured. So u dont have to manually make an entry there to use dhcp.
