Angry Error 0x10 loading Linux on dual boot with W2K

I have a dual-hard drive system running W2K as my primary OS. I installed Redhat Linux 7.0 with no problems, until trying to load it.

I put LILO on the Linux root partition, as specified in the docs, and used a boot disk to load it. The LILO screen comes up, with the standard prompt. After I type "linux", it starts to load.

It gets to "Linux..............."
and then stops and says
"error 0x10"
and then goes back to the prompt.

I've reinstalled 4 times now, and used different boot floppies.

Any help?
Cheers,
Brett

According to my documentation....

0x10 = CRC error. Media error, try rerunning the map installer.

If you are trying to boot off of your floppy, I would sugest that you have actually had 4 four bad floppies or your floppy drive is going bad.

Usually if you get LILO to load completely, then you have a good LILO installation. Problems after that are usually media problems

Unhappy

Well, a funny thing happened on the way to rebooting my computer.........

It didn't. It couldn't. Not even past the RAM check. It gets about a quarter of the way through the RAM and then just freezes. This is not good.

I don't think this is the installations fault, since the problem seems to be a hardware/bios level. Luckily, Dell support is coming today to give me a new motherboard.....

Anyway, one of the other errors I got was
Error 0x40
which I'm guessing is another media error. If that's the case, I'll look into using a different floppy drive.

However, that will have to wait until my new motherboard arrives.......

Cheers,
Brett

It seems to me that most of the #x## errors that come out of lilo when booting your computer are related to media problems. If there is a problem with lilo you may only get LI or LIL when it is loading. But since your motherboard died, that might have been the problem all along.
