I am running Corel Linux 1.2, and configuring,making ect the 2.4.0 kernal went without a hitch, my computer rebooted just fine. However, during make modules_install, it could not run depmod for modprobe because of the following error:

/sbin/depmod: invalid option -- F
Usage: depmod [-e -s -v ] -a [FORCED_KERNEL_VER]
depmod [-e -s -v ] MODULE_1.o MODULE_2.o ...
Create module-dependency information for modprobe.

-a, --all visit all modules
-d, --debug run in debug mode
-e output unresolved symbols
-s, --system-log use the system log for error reporting
--help display this help and exit
-v, --verbose run in verbose mode
-V, --version output version information and exit
make: *** [_modinst_post] Error 1


Now I have tried depmod syntax every which way and have read through the man's throughly, I just /cannot/ get depmod working on my system. Any additional info needed I will gladly post. PLEASE HELP!

Is it kernel 2.4.0-test1 ??? There were some problems concerning depmode and this kernel-version.

A solution might be, to edit your modules.dep by adding the path and dependency of each module you need into it.

Well, I got it off kernel.org, I'm not 100% sure if its test 1, I'm not sure how to tell.

So, you want to make a kernel-upgrade?
From 2.2.xx to 2.4.0?
You didn't wrote that here.

But if it is a change from 2.2.xx to 2.4.0 you have to get some newer packages as recommended in the kernel-readme file!

I have changed the following packages on my redhat 7.0 testserver:
1. the latest gcc version
2. util-linux 2.10o (www.kernel.org)
3. modutils-2.4.0 (www.kernel.org)
4. 2fsprogs-1.19-0.i386.rpm
5. mkinitrd-2.9-1.i386.rpm

After having done that i recompiled the kernel etc.
Works fine now :-)

I can't find '2fsprogs-1.19-0.i386.rpm' and 'mkinitrd-2.9-1.i386.rpm' . Where can I get those files?
