Hello--need help getting my nic to work with roadrunner cable in Mandrake Linux 7.2. I read the DHCP mini how-to and it said to install dhcpcd and then move an "rc.inet1" to another place and then create a new one; I cd'd into /etc/rc.d and did not see this file so I created one with the commands given and saved it as rc.inet1 inside /etc/rc.d, rebooted and eth0 still did not come up. So then I tried the 2nd suggestion of editing the /sbin/ifup script by adding a "-h hostname"; that didn't work either. I am going to try the 3rd suggestion out but first I need to know how to go about getting your nic's mac address. Do you do write down what it says after "physical address" when you do an 'ipconfig /all' in win2k? I guess I'm in need of another suggestion--preferrably from someone also running Mandrake and using Roadrunner. My nic is a 3com Etherlink XL 10/100 3c905c-TX. Please Advise. TIA.

You read the mini-HowTo on DHCP, have you read the main HowTo on cable modem's. You might want to try this link,
http://www.vortech.net/rrlinux/ or
http://people.qualcomm.com/karn/rr/index.html or read the main HowTo at: http://www.linuxdoc.org/HOWTO/Cable-...ps.html#AEN169

Hope this helps in any way.
