I have determined that I am using the right version of the pctel drivers. The driver compiled and installed without any errors on my machine. I followed these instructions:

#. insmod pctel
#. rm /dev/ttyS15
#. mknod /dev/ttyS15 c 62 79
#. chmod 666 /dev/ttyS15
#. setserial /dev/ttyS15 irq 9 port 0xe800 skip_test
Cannot set serial info: Operation not permitted

Anyone know what's causing this?

* Yes I AM logged in as root
* Yes I have disabled PnP OS in my BIOS setup
* Yes I have disabled IRQ, I/O auto-assigning in BIOS setup

Am I the only person who got this error message?

I'm using SuSE Linux 7.1 with kernel 2.2.16. I compiled diff drivers for other kernels and got the same message with setserial.

Alright... forget this... I give up.

I've spent too much time on this.

I'm gonna buy real modem.

I'd still like to know what I was doing wrong though.
