i installed lilo on mbr but after installation i don't boot from lilo. i just boot straight to windows.
when i tried to configure /etc/lilo.conf i got a message that there isn't enough memory on sector using linear mode and that i should try lba32.
i have no idea what the hell that means.
please help
actually i didn't edit anything in lilo.conf i just tried to run /sbin/lilo and got that message. the problem i had was that after installing linux i don't boot via lilo eventhough it is installed.
i have already installed linux on my machine and was booting via lilo but then i have formatted my hard drive and installed windows 98 and linux (after that). since then i can only boot with a boot disk.
When you reinstalled after reformat, did you install Linux or Windows first. If you install windows after Linux, it rewrites the MBR everytime. You might want to then try to fdisk /MBR, then run /sbin/lilo
That might work for ya.
Distribution: Redhat v8.0 (soon to be Fedora? or maybe I will just go back to Slackware)

Linear vs lba32
If you don't want to reinstall.. you will have to boot into Linux using the boot floppy I know you made during the install process and edit /etc/lilo.conf
There is a line in there that says "linear"
Change that to "lba32" and run /sbin/lilo again. You should see response that LILO has succeeded, but you should not get an error message.
no choice left i reinstalled linux.
and then i followed your instructions.
i think everything is cool now.
thanks for the time and everything.
now all i've got a problem with is the resolution on my screen and connecting to the internet.
i'm posting a new thread on these two things if you're interested.
