Linux Laptop Installation

Ok here is the deal. I want to install linux, any type, on a laptop. It's a 486 100mhz with 8mb RAM and a Linksys Combo PCMCIA Ethernetcard, but no CDROM drive. How might I accomplish this?

Also try http://www.toms.net/rb

There are many links on the bottom of the page to mini versions of linux that don't require much overhead, which you don't have much of with 8MB of RAM.

Also, look at http://linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/4mb-Laptops.html
It might give you some inspiration.

And, as Jeremy said, most distros allow a network installation. You'll just have to download a small file at first, which allows you to boot up and start the network install process.

You could also look into Peanut Linux, ThinLinux...and several other distros that might suit you fine with a small install, but yes, most distro's come with ftp install capabilities.
