Question

I login to a novell server regularly and was wondering if there is some way to login using ncpmount to connect to the novell context. If it matters, or just to clarify; I log into Tree: GVSU, and Context: J.STUDENT with Username: jacobsok.

I don't need this for a network connection to the internet, just to get at files on my network drive and other such things.

Thanks for helping!

If I'm not mistaken, Caldera and Red Hat both include a Novell client for Linux with their distros. I wish I could tell you more. I work in a primarily Novell environment, but my sysadmin has forbid me to to install the client on my RH box because he says there have been some cases of the Linux box becoming a black hole of sorts for packets and caused people to have to reboot their Novell servers. Maybe he's just paranoid, I dunno. If you actually get this to work, please continue the thread. I'd like to know how it went.

Never heard of the hole myself but I was a Novell booster b4 I got into linux. Most distros have the ncpfs (in kernel compile or as module CONFIG_NCP_FS in the filesystems->network file systems -- check options you need). The last time I used it the kids at Caldera had a sweet setup. Don't remember how to do NDS logins anymore though but it worked nice on a 4.11 system that was all over North America. See Caldera...

(edit)
Might hafta do IPX as well... Like I said, it's been a while. Depends on how 'native' IP they have gone.

Hey - didja hear about the Novell Server that 'lost' behind a new wall? Four years and it never had to be touched. Nice. University of North Carolina IIRC.

Nag - prolly shouldn't be throwing around NDS tree parts and login id's on sucha public forum. Just my $.02.

mac

We're at Netware 5.1 and almost completely IP these days. Only one of our many servers is still using IPX and that will be phased completely out this summer. We'll then be upgrading the clients and only using IP.....

I did hear about the walled up server....I just wondered if the reason that happened was because the admin was shot after flashing his headlights at someone who wasn't using lights at night, or maybe had his kidneys robbed and woke up in a bathtub of ice.....

Good point about throwing tree parts around for all to see. Of course people also post here to talk about how their site has been hacked and then have their URL under their profile. :-)

Peace

I'm not quite sure what the big deal is about telling you my Tree and Context. As far as I know there's only one way to 'login' from outside, and since I'm just a normal user I have nothing even closely related to admin rights.

Oh well, no big deal...so no ideas on getting connected on SuSE?

Damn. I haven't actually done it since '97 on NW4.11. It worked perfectly. <shrug>.

Go for a dig through caldera.com (while you still can) as they are the authority on Netware + Linux implementations.

I sat here long enough and figured it out.
First you turn on IPX.
Then you dicover servers on your network by typing slist.
Then you can use ncpmount to mount drives. I have two mounted right now.

I'll come back and post the details when I'm back in Linux, I can't remember the correct syntax.
