I'm trying to configure my linux box at work to act as a VPN server. I've read through the HOWTO's, but I've come across a stumbling block.

I'm trying to allow my coworkers to access the work lan. They will be using Win9x at home with access to the network through the linux box. After reading the VPN HOWTO, I understand using ssh to open a secure tunnel and then using ppp to connect the lan. The HOWTO does not address having a Win9x client, and I'm at a loss as to how to get the ppp conx working.

I'm using tera term pro with the ssh patch. I've got that going just fine. Anyone know if their is a win virtual adapter aside from PPTP? Can anyone point me to some online guides or books? Anyone else caught in the situation?

To setup the VLAN both ends would have to be Linux/unix boxes I believe. I don't know how you would get the VPN setup using Windows eithout using PPTP. There is a HOWTO that mentions using PPTP on Linux, that might help. Have a look at http://linuxdocs.org/HOWTOs/VPN-Masquerade-HOWTO.html dunno how applicable it will be though... (also dunno how good PPTP is)

So you are trying to get it so people can use the Linux box as a gateway into the work's LAN yeah? But you want to secure it with SSH...
