From the squid webpage
Quote:
Squid is:

- a full-featured Web proxy cache
- designed to run on Unix systems
- free, open-source software
- the result of many contributions by unpaid (and paid) volunteers
More info is available at http://www.squid-cache.org/

My SQUID seems to listen at 3128. Maybe that's why I can't get the bugger to work. Should I change to 8080?

You could get your internet browser to look at that port, but everyone who uses proxy servers knows its 8080, like 80 is for websites.
