uninstalling programs

if there is no make uninstall, how do i remove a program?

i'm specifically looking at uninstalling apache 1.3.20, php, and perl. none of the above programs have make uninstalls, and i need to completely wipe them from my system in order to reinstall them correctly this time.

help would be great - thanks.

Exclamation rm

This is not Windows, just remove them. It helps if you know where all the files are. Try: "man whereis"

Look in the ./configure file to find where all the files are going to be added by default (or is it the makefile file, I forget off hand) and you can manually delete them. If you did an RPM install then "man rpm" /uninstall

Good luck.

I believe that if you run the 'make clean' command whilst in the src distribution (that would be the file that was created when you gunzipped the tar.gz file) then you can simply reconfigure the software and install it again, thats what I did anyway.

If i,m wrong someone let me know, I hate it, but I,d rather be corrected than going on thinking i,m right

If you didn't specify a custom install directory(via ./configure --prefix=/dir) then the easiest way is to remove the source tree, re untar/gzip(bzip) the file, and ./configure && make && make install again. This will overwrite all of your files with cleanly built source. Otherwise you have to manually find them and delete them.
