Changing the command prompt in bash

I am trying to set the PS1 in the bashrc file, but instead of finding an existing PS1, it has all of this other if then crap. I was wondering if someone could help me with this problem? I just installed Red Hat Linux 7.1 Server install. thanks.

RE: look in bashrc

The the whole file is a mess of weird IF, ELIF, FI statements that i can't make heads or tails out of. I am wondering if anyone else ran into this problem, and if someone knows where to place the PS1 statement. Of if i can just delete the whole thing, or parts of it.

solution for PS1

If you want to change this for a particular user. Go to the users .bashrc file & at the end make an entry.
Example
PS1 = 'INDIA'
