Unhappy Harddrake

Ok, I finally get Mandrake Linux 8.0 to install ( had bad ISO's thanks for the previous posts here I found that one), now when I boot HARDDRAKE fails to load and KDE is useless (I can't get to GNOME to try it). What I get upon log in is my mouse pointer, a momentary line in the middle of the screen, the line goes away and that's it.........nothing more from KDE. I'm thinking reinstall but I'm hoping to avoid it. Any help would be great. BTW I'm new here and a noobie to Linux and would like to say hello and thank you for the help I've already recieved.

It sounds like you're set up to boot straight into X (the GUI), but your video card/monitor didn't get correctly configured during setup. Try hitting Ctrl+Alt+Backspace once you get to the point where the graphics fails. That should kill X and put you at a command prompt. From there, try typing "Xconfigurator" (no qoutes) and re-enter the proper information for your video card and monitor from there.

Just a thought, hope it helps..

I gave that a shot, but it just flashed the command line at me then went back to the GUI login screen. I exited out of X and then typed "xconfigurator" (with out quotes ) while logged in as root and couldn't get the configurator tool. Thanks for you help so far, if nothing else I've picked up another set of hotkeys :-)

Talking FIXED!!!

OK, so I was a goober and didn't realize that linux is CaSe SeNsItIvE, but I did work my way through my own stupidity...thanks for the guidance. Xconfigure didn't fix the problem but it helped me troubleshoot it. I ended up reinstalling and using Gnome as my GUI and it is working just peachy.
