Exclamation Sound configaration in linux

I have two os win-98 and linux in my machine
After installing linux I tried sound configuration
The report I got is

PCI sound card Intel corporation | 82801AA 82810 AC' 97 Audio.
not supported by linux

Then I downloaded alsa-driver-0.9.0beta4.tar.bz2 from net.
and then did as they said.

After that I found my mixer setting showing properly and even at the time of booting it is loading sound card and mixer setting.
For your kind information I have changed volume level by running aumix because the channels are mutted by default as specified in alsa documents.

But now I am not getting any sound though my xmms is showing that it is playing that song.
I am getting the keyboard bell loud in my speaker but no sound when playing songs.

Another thing I can play songs from windows.
Wating for help,

I have the same soundcard (mine is on board) and the same problem.

What I did was I got the latest version of Harddarke installed. I also installed alsa, detect and everything that was necessary for harddrake to be installed.

It then recognized my soundcard. But no sound like yours! xmms would play but no sound.

What I did to get it running was I went into harddrake again. Chose the sound card. and clicked on "run configuration" (or s.th like that, don't remember exactly). A list came up with my sound card in there. I chose it again and pushed ok. boom! The guy said "your sound card has been configued successfuly by harddrake". And there, it works now.

Hope it helps you.
