no... it's not the card. i've seen this before, but i really don't have an answer. somehow, the character set of the base terminal is getting changed or corrupted. this can also happen if you try to cat a binary file. the only way i've ever been able to fix this is to just restart the computer. in linux, there's almost always a way to fix anything without actually rebooting, but you're going to have to find a script or a program to fix it. i'll let you know if i find anything.
