Greeting all:

I was messing with linuxconf trying to set up a firewall, etc. As a consequence, my printer no longer works.
I believe it is a result of /etc/resolv.conf being over-
written. This is all that is in that file:

search
nameserver

Closing linuxconf (even when NO changes are made) requires
these be in sync:

/etc/rc3.d/S60lpd start
/etc/rc3.d/S98portsentry start

netstat shows the printer ports unbound and shutdown or
reboot displays:

stopping lpd [FAILED]

start-up displays:

Get_local_host: 'localhost' IP address not available!

Thanks for your help,

farmer greg

nope, that file shouldn't affect local printing.
The resolve.conf is used to point it to the DNS servers.

Check your /etc/hosts file has not gone and you have something that looks like this example:
127.0.0.1 localhost
10.2.2.4 foobar localhost
49.38.186.12 nuke1xpn # Joint Tactical Command, Control1
49.38.186.32 nuke2xpn # Joint Tactical Command, Control2

Also disable portsentry for now, as it may open a port that the printer wants to use. "do you do socket printing?"
Also check all your cards are working correctly as RPC uses the network binds to internally communications within the system.

Basically start from scratch, turn off the firewall and other things until you diagnose the problem.
Remember you must let the firewall let the Kernel talk to 127.0.0.1 from it's internal interfaces.
