I have absolutly no clue as to what I am doing with samba. Backround= 2 Computers Comp1-Mandrake 8.0, Comp2-WindowsME/Mandrake 8.0 ..... Setting up Samba on comp1 to get comp2 to share files. I would like to make comp1 into my file server for both windows and linux. While setting up samba server on comp1, I did get the windows computer to see the workgroup and comp1, Then after more reading i found that windows uses encrypted passwords and i need to either configure windows for plain text or linux for encrypted passwords. I tried to configure WindowsME but found that the registry folder that needed another entry was missing (I was very carful as to searching and editing) so I made the folder and the entry as explained in the how-to. But to no avail.

What I need is a way to configure SAMBA to run on windowsME and to setup a LAN for mandrake 8.0 I have never done networking with linux so bear down the hatches and prepare for many more questions (as medial as they seem.). I have bought countless books but they are all outdated and have no clue as to how to go about it. I am not pleased with WINDOWSME but it does do networking simply. I would rather know how to di it with linux. No matter what version or distibution. Thanks in advance. And sorry for the questions being medial I have read i dunno how many how-to's and they are not making any sense...
