Hi,
Iam planning to install Oracle 8i on my RD 7.0 but from the information I had gathered, my understanding is that Oracle 8i would install only only on RedHat 6.2. and not on 7.0. How is this? Iam kind of confused. My general opinion was that the higher versions support all that the previous version supported and something in addition to that....Is it due to any revamping of RedHat system architecture? (something like moving from 16 bit to 32 bit as was done in windows?) Would somebody be able to explain about this?
The CD I have for installing 8i mentions that it requires kernel 2.2.11 and above and didn't mention about any specific distribution. Does it mean that I can install it on any other linux distributions? If it can be installed on some other distribution besides RD, would any of you be able to suggest me which would be the best dist to run Oracle 8i?
Any suggestion is most appreciated.
Thanks
