Question

I normally work at the console or via telnet. I install KDE as part of my setup but don't use it (yet).

I was wondering if it is possible to run xwindows across the network, sort of like a Citrix metaframe setup.

I want the linux server to do all the processing etc but display everything in a terminal program on my Windows 98 box.

I am sure that Cirtix stole the idea and made a crappy version of what *nix has been doing for years but I can't seem to find any info on it.

Is it possible? What do you call that type of setup? What terminology is used to describe it? Where are some instructions on how to do it?

Harry,

It's certainly possible. I was doing it a few years back with a product called Exceed. The company that makes it is called Hummingbird.

You'll pay a few nickels for it, but it's a great tool. I was able to remotely run an entire system across a network from my PC. And it wasn't just limited to shells. I could run any process on my PC that the system would run in it's X11 environment.

also...

there are other products that allow you to do this. Go to the tucows windows 9x software section and i beleive there is a section called x servers.
