New kernel but shutdown problem

I have SuSE7.1 and upgraded to 2.4.6 kernel.Everything I configured works fine except my computer will not shutdown.in Login Manager, sessions tab "allow to shutdown" is set to "all" but still does not shutdown on its own.Anyone have an idea on a fix?

I'm not a SUSE user and am still kindof a Newbie, but anyhow, here is my input, for what it is worth.

code
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# su
# [superuser's password]
# shutdown -h now (this will halt the machine)
OR
# shutdown -r now (this will restart the machine)

did this problem start appearing just after you installed the 2.4.6 kernel? it seems really strange that a kernel upgrade would cause the computer to upset it's reboot or shutdown config.

Well, when I installed it is when I started getting this prob.Only does this in 2.4.6 the 2.4.4 kernel is ok.I used Xconfig to set parameters for 2.4.6 cuz oldconfig does not work for me.Shutdown from a terminal will not work either.Maybe I'll take another look in xconfig and see if I missed something.
