Question

I posted this question two weeks back, but did not get answer. So, I am posting it again.

I have two linux 6.2 machines. I can ftp, telnet, and rlogin between the machines, but rcp gives me permission denied error message.

I created oracle userid with same password on both machines, and then created .rhosts file in /home/oracle directory on both machines.

Content of /home/oracle/.rhosts file on machine1 is:
machine2

Content of /home/oracle/.rhosts file on machine2 is:
machine1

Any help in resolving this is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Shailendra Singh

I always have trouble when setting up rsh, rcp and rlogin. Here's a snipit from a Unix guide:

Quote:
The name that you use in your .rhosts file must be the full domain-style name of the remote computer, which may be longer than the name that you ordinarily use to refer to that computer. Here are ways to find out what the full names is:[*] If you can connect to the remote computer using telnet (by any name), you'll find its full name on the banner line that appears when you make the connection.[*] Look for the name of the remote computer in /etc/hosts on our local computer. The name to use in .rhosts is the first one listed on the relevant line of /etc/hosts (after the network address).
You can also try adding the oracle user name after the host name.
