Sorry for asking a purely cosmetic question.... but does anyone here know how to get rid of the graphical boot prompt in RH 7? I've tried the search function to see if this question was ask earlier to no avail....

Here is my lilo.conf Setup if it is of any help.

boot="/dev/hda"
install=/boot/boot.b
map=boot/map
prompt
timeout="100"
linear
default=linux

image="/boot/vmlinuz-2.4.2-2"
label="linux"
read-only
root="/dev/hdb1"
append="hdd=ide-scsi"

other=/dev/hda1
optional
label=win

ure at least in the right dir :-] the setting for the level is in /etc/inittab, look for the line that sez "initdefault" change the 5 to a 3, save, quit, reboot.
*swapping runlevels also works from the commandline by issuing "telinit (number 1-5)", dont use 0 or 6 tho, 0 is "halt" and 6 is reboot.

Thanks... umSpawn. Changing run modes isn't quite my problem as I don't mind booting into X or console, I guess I didn't do correct job of explaining my problem.

I don't know if you run Red Hat 7 or installed linux from Red Hat 7 but what it does is immediately when lilo boots your are confronted with a graphic (of the red hat logo) with menu of of Lilo boot choices (in my cas"telinit (number 1-5)e linux or win) it is that graphic with a menu I am attempting to get rid of in favor of a simple text based lilo. Some how I think it is in the message=boot/message line... Which isn't here (but Message=boot/message is the default.) Problem is I don't know what an empty boot/message file will do to LILO... I'm gonna try right now... but if anyone has any suggestions...

Well figured out how to fix that problem on my own....
Simply put the Graphic the RH7 confronts you with during Lilo is Located in /boot/message. Its a PCX file or so I'm told and all one needs to do is erase it and replace it with a message file that contains whatever message you want or if you want no message... just few blank spaces made by a spacebar.
