Depends a bit on how your router and network are set up. I too have a LinkSys router and Win machines and one Linux box. I could set up the Linux box to use DHCP from the router, but decided to establish static IPs for all my machines. Reason being, with dynamic IPs I could not see how to set up hosts files so that the Linux box could see the Win boxes, and vice versa. By using static IPs, and finding out the DNS addresses to use from my ISP (later found out I could get the info off the router on the setup pages), using the router as Gateway, the Linux box can see the internet, read email from the work mailservers, and can see the Win boxes. Next challenge is to set up Samba properly so the Win boxes can see the Linux box.
