Unhappy

Hi all

Im running RH 6.2 2.2.19smp. Ive installed XF86 x window ok. I've then installed Gnome 1.2 via rpms. However on invoking startx I only get the default 3 windows. If I then within the X session type gnome-session I get an error windows manager already running. If I type gnome-session at shell I get a Gtk-WARNING cannot open display and SESSION_MANAGER=local/localhost.localdomain:/tmp/.ICE-unix/1347,tcp/localhost.localdomain:1028. Do I have to edit the .Xclients or initrc files? Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks Rumbey

Maybe you'll have to edit .xinitrc file in your home directory. If the file doesn't exist, create it. Then make sure that there is a line that says
exec gnome-session

Then startx should start gnome by default.

you've made .xinitrc executable by changing the file-permissions?
