you dont need configure kernel. but if you wanna try this :
download the latest kernel ,2.2.18.tar.gz from
http://www.kernel.org., move to /usr/src
from terminal :
host# startx
open terminal window:
host# cd /usr/src
host# pwd
/usr/src
host# rm -R /linux
host# gunzip 2.2.18.tar.gz
host# tar -xvf 2.2.18.tar
host# cd linux
host# pwd
/usr/src/linux
host# make xconfig
(from this,you can enable/disable what kernel option you want.)
save and run this :
host# make dep ; make clean ; make bzImage
host# cd /usr/src/linux/arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot
host# cd /boot
host# rm system.map
host# rm boot.map
host# cp vmlinuz vmlinuz.old
host# vi /etc/lilo.conf
edit word vmlinuz with bzImage
save then :
host# /sbin/lilo
after reboot make sure you get this :
host# uname -a
Linux 2.2.18........................
