I tried to login as usual by entering username and password. It verifies the password and starts loading but it stops and doesn't load the shell. So I get MOTD and the message that says "You have mail" but that's it. I'm doing this remotely only. (My machine's at home and I'm at work) Is there anything I can do to diagnose what the problem is remotely without being on the machine itself? Anything I can do to fix this?

Thanks for your suggestions in advance.

well.. sorry.. the absolute number one troubleshooting step I would do is to try that same user at the console. You using telnet or ssh?

It was completely stuck without a reason. I hard-reset the machine and it came back. I suspect it's a bad RAM considering it gives Segmentation Fault from time to time and other weird symptions although it isn't very frequent. Thanks for replying.
