Check out http://www.linmodems.org, if its listed as not working, most likely you need a new modem....if it says yes, most likely it gives you a link to some type of support or email of someone who got it working.
If its an HCF one then you may aswell not even bother. But if uses something else such as PCtel, or is a lucent one then you will probably be able to get it working.
