I'm attempting to compile an IDE patch into the kernel to allow for the use of an Onstream I30 tape drive. Every time I run "make dep bzImage && make modules modules_install" it will run through its normal routine and then bomb out and will be unsucessfull at creating the bzImage file. I've read the thing about the gcc not working with redhat 7.0 and to change a string in the /usr/src/linux/Makefile. It appears that is already completed on my installation.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

compiling on redhat 7.0

RH 7 came with a devel. snapshot of gcc so its tweaked my recommendation is to downgrade to the version of egcs that came with RH 6.2 then recompile the kernel, or i think theres a special gcc called kgcc or kcc i forget which, that came with 7.0 and you can use that to compile the kernel.

kgcc-1.1.2-40

Yes.. that is correct. The rpm included with RHv7.0 that he is referring to is 'kgcc-1.1.2-40'
It is automatically included if you select the "kernel development" package when installing. If you didn't do that, you will need to install it before you will be able to compile a kernel.
