What could the problem when debian patato can't start
X windows error saying that /dev/mouse not found, but when using XF86Setup is correctly configured , but the mouse shows no movement. also the card is no getting configured properly i have a intel740 card, which is not recgonised by debian. Also I have set the /boot before 1024 cylinder, now if i install windows nt it will repartition and delete, the boot part. How do I go about with this installation. I have used Redhat6.2 and now shifting to debian.

I had the same problem with potato. I guess you only have to create a softlink from /dev/mouse to /dev/psaux (if you have a PS2 mouse).
Really don't know anything about this NT stuff. Sorry.
Is the /boot partition at the very beginning of your HD?

windows has to be installed first. there is no way you can get around it wiping the boot sector. it won;t start up unless it is at the begining of the drive. bit of a bugger really. try to back up your drive then install windows and re install linux.

Yes I have sucessfully installed redhat 6.2 and window nt as a dual boot system, by making nt as fat, now i shall try that on the other machine with debian. redhat 6.2 on a 20 gb hd did not allow me to install and complained about the partition to big error. but debian installed lilo successfully, but did not show the dos/windows option.
is redhat's lilo not upgarded as debian.
Lastly can i comunicate b/w redhat and debian ie load a filesystem from debian in redhat and vice/versa.
thanks for the mouse about i will try it.
